History, Arts and Culture

London is a city justly proud of its cultural diversity, yet for too long the focus has been on mainstream history. Black London allows us to see this familiar city anew, revealing events and places that tell the story of its black inhabitants.  From the Royal ‘blacke trumpeter’ of Tudor times, John Blanke, and 18th century writer and composer, Ignatius Sancho, to the arrival of the Windrush generations, and the Black Live Matters mural in Woolwich, join authors Avril and Jody to discover the work of some remarkable individuals who have helped make London a truly global modern city.
