Guildford Chamber Choir’s Italian Baroque concert brings the sunshine of the Mediterranean to Surrey. George Frideric Handel’s virtuosic Dixit Dominus was written in Rome in 1707 when the composer was just 22 years old and at the very start of his career.

In contrast we have from Venice a late work of Claudio Monterverdi, his effervescent Beatus vir, dating from 1640.

The third choral work in our programme is a rarely heard setting of the Magnificat by an almost exact contemporary of Handel, the Neopolitan Francesco Durante.
