The Surrey Mozart Players return to St Teresa’s Effingham for this concert of classical and romantic orchestral music.
The programme includes Saint-Saëns Cello Concerto No. 1 featuring cellist, Ben Tarlton. With echoes of the famous swan in ‘The Carnival of the Animals’, Saint-Saëns continues to show his affinity with the cello in this beautiful concerto. Beethoven’s Prometheus Overture begins the concert and it concludes with Brahms Serenade No. 1 which, while not a symphony, has been described as, ”the playground of idyllic dreams, of beloved thoughts, of lightness and gaiety. It is the symphony of tranquillity.” (Eduard Hanslick, 1862).

Thomas Bowes is one of the UK’s finest violinists. His concerto appearances in the UK, Germany and the USA have included highly praised performances of concertos by Elgar, Britten, Szymanowski and Walton.
Between 1988 and 1993 Tom was the founding leader of the Maggini String Quartet.Tom is privileged to own and play an Armati violin from 1659.
This concert is formed of three of the six works that go to make up Bach’s 1720 magnum opus for Solo violin, his cryptically entitled ’Sei Solo’.
Tom will not only play these works but will show and explain their context - the catastrophe of losing a much loved wife and a most private dialogue between himself and his God as he searches for meaning
