  • Giotto di Bondone (c. 1266-1337), a boy wonder, was probably the first Italian artist to be a celebrity in his own lifetime.  He was sought after by the most powerful men in Italy; from kings and popes to rich merchant bankers. Yet establishing the truth about Giotto is surprisingly difficult.  For an artist who is so famous he remains quite elusive.  This lecture separates the legend from the reality, exploring the life and career of Giotto di discover the defining qualities of his work, and why he is so important in the history of western art.
